Abuse and Violence of Women and Children in Davao City

Abstract

The study employed the theory of routine activity (TRA) in determining the vulnerability of women and children to abuse using the multinomial logistic regression. Study revealed that young males and females faced the risks of abuse and violence though significantly higher among female victims; the most vulnerable age for female victims was found to be 13 years. Sexual abuse was found to be the most common form of abuse while the physical and psychological abuses were found to be in the context of parental discipline. An empirical testing identified age as determinant of vulnerability; adolescent girls posed highest vulnerability to sexual abuse.
