Although long term positive trends of cyclonic activity in the Indian Ocean have been reported in a number of studies, no trend can be detected in the seventeen year period from 1998 to 2014. The results are consistent with the global warming pause hypothesis. It is noted however, that the period investigated is comparatively short and that the findings reported in this study may not represent overall long term trends.
