North-eastern region of India comprising of eight states, is a very less developed and tribal population dominated region in India. In spite of common Tibeto-Burman/Mongoloid origin and lifestyle close to Southeast Asia than to South Asia, the cultural and ethnic diversities are one of the major problems in this region. Sharp differences also exist in the status of their socio-economic development. Uneven development often causes social and communal conflicts and mass population displacement forced in nature in this region which worsens the poverty situation of the region. Among eight states, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh are comparatively stable. In Tripura though some policy measures have been adopted by the local government, those are not adequate and exhaustive in nature. Thus there is an urgent requirement of development of region specific and need specific policy measures.
