Slim Hole Multiple Radials Drilled with Coiled Tubing

Abstract

Abstract Two methods of combining water jet drilling and coiled tubing, the Ultrashort Radius Radial System (URRS) and the Quick Radial System (QRS), are described. Both provide multiple horizontal radials on a single horizon from a single vertical wellbore to penetrate near wellbore damage. The URRS requires section milling of the casing and underreaming of a cavity. The QRS penetrates the casing with abrasives. Typical field production results with both light and heavy oil are discussed.
