Abstract This paper presents a novel method for sand cleanout in a highly deviated offshore well in East Malaysia. This operation utilizes electric-line (e-line) wireline tractors that convey a mechanical wellbore cleaning tool, employing rotational technology embedded within each reservoir module. This provided a highly cost-effective and operationally efficient rigless solution as an alternative to traditional coiled tubing and snubbing units. This technology addresses the significant logistical and technical challenges posed by traditional cleanout methodologies. Wireline wellbore cleanout (WBCO) can be rapidly deployed to remove debris from highly deviated wells with long horizontal sections, particularly on platforms and in areas with footprint restrictions. The technique has proven effective in restoring wellbore access, enabling further completion and remediation deployments while mitigating the need for expensive intervention methods. We present an operational study that details operational challenges, mitigation strategies, and performance metrics, thereby demonstrating the system's repeatability and adaptability.
