ABSTRACT This paper reviews the rationale and content of relief well plans for remote areas. As with many industry related contingency plans there is an increasing need to ensure these plans are well organized, practical and efficient for an unlikely event such as a blowout. This report highlights one such plan developed for floating drilling operations in the Canadian Beaufort Sea. This remote area presents many technical, logistical and seasonal constrains that require special consideration.
