ABSTRACT A new additive reduces the amount of oil retained on drill cuttings generated by drilling with an oil-base fluid. The oil retention on drill cuttings phenomenon and the approach used in dealing with it in the field are reviewed with particular emphasis on the use of high water content oil-base muds. Laboratory and field data using this new additive to decrease total cuttings oil retention are described.
