ABSTRACT In October of 1982, after drilling the seventh well on the Cerveza platform in offshore Texas waters, nearly four days were spent attempting to record wireline logs. Getting wireline logs to total depth was typical of problems on previous wells in this area. Measurements While Drilling (MWD) utilizing resistivity and gamma ray, was evaluated on the eighth well and has been used successfully on the subsequent eight wells to date. This initial use of MWD for geological evaluation led to further applications reagarding drilling optimization and directional control.
