Abstract

La cantidad de incremento de lodos residuales provenientes de la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales en todo el mundo se caracterizan por ser residuos peligrosos debido a su alto contenido de metales pesados y microrganismos patógenos, lo cual representa un riesgo para el medio ambiente debido a su mala disposición final, ya que la mayor parte termina en botaderos generando la contaminación de los cuerpos receptores, atracción de vectores y enfermedades, por otro lado estos son incinerados generando el desprendimiento tanto de gases y cenizas, siendo la principal fuente del incremento de Gases de Efecto Invernadero, sin embargo cabe mencionar que estos subproductos son ricos en materia orgánica, macro y micronutrientes por lo que deben de ser aprovechados, para lo cual existen normativas para su regulación cuya principal finalidad es mitigar el cambio climático mediante su minimización y manejo adecuado por parte de los diferentes sectores. Es por ello que el principal objetivo de la presente revisión teórica es ver los posibles aprovechamientos para la gestión de los lodos, enfocándonos tanto en la evaluación de la sostenibilidad del ambiente, económica y técnica, por lo que se han desarrollado diferentes criterios para la elección de la opción más adecuada, porque los lodos presentan valores valiosos en cuanto a energía y materia.
