Caminabilidad y nivel socioeconómico en las grandes ciudades españolas

Abstract

Este artículo analiza la caminabilidad urbana, entendida como la capacidad del entorno construido para facilitar los desplazamientos a pie, en las diez principales ciudades españolas, prestando especial atención a su distribución territorial y su relación con las condiciones socioeconómicas de la población. A partir de datos y herramientas abiertas, se construyen indicadores objetivos que permiten evaluar, comparar y cartografiar la accesibilidad peatonal a escala intraurbana. Aunque, en general, las grandes ciudades españolas presentan condiciones estructurales favorables para la movilidad peatonal, también se identifican zonas con déficits significativos, especialmente en tejidos periféricos y de baja densidad. Mediante técnicas de análisis estadístico y espacial, se detectan patrones de superposición entre baja caminabilidad y bajos ingresos, lo que indica la existencia de territorios donde se acumulan desventajas físicas y sociales. El estudio sostiene que la caminabilidad no es un atributo urbano neutro, sino un recurso territorialmente condicionado cuya distribución puede reflejar, e incluso reforzar, desigualdades socioespaciales.
