Asignación y retorno de habilidades en el mercado laboral en México

Abstract

Los niveles de escolaridad de las personas en Mexico son cada vez mas altos, pero el mercado laboral se esta volviendo mas selectivo en la contratacion de trabajadores, donde ademas de la educacion formal, son importantes otros factores como la capacidad intelectual, disciplina, y otros atributos personales. Actualmente, son escasos los estudios sobre los efectos de habilidades en el mercado laboral mexicano, por ello la aportacion de este trabajo es analizar como se da la asignacion y rendimiento de las habilidades de los trabajadores mexicanos por ocupacion laboral. Se estiman modelos sencillos de autoseleccion entre dos grandes grupos de ocupaciones con base a las habilidades del trabajador como el planteado por Roy (1951). Entre los resultados, se encuentra que en los procesos de seleccion en las ocupaciones que requieren personal mas cualificado se valora la formacion academica y las capacidades cognitivas, independientemente del genero. Ademas, La capacidad cognitiva de las personas si tiene un efecto sobre sus salarios independiente de la escolaridad. Si bien los niveles educativos de los trabajadores en Mexico estan incrementando, se debe procurar que dicha educacion incluya competencias que permitan desarrollarse en el mercado laboral como es en analisis aritmetico, capacidad de abstraccion y razonamiento logico.
