Analysis of the Reception of Public Views on Gay Couples on TikTok @chiko_ingham Account

Abstract

TikTok has become a medium for sexual identity expression and LGBT advocacy, although inclusive content often receives mixed responses from the public. This study aims to analyze the public's reception and views of gay couples. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive content analysis with a focus on data collection through online interviews with followers of the social media account @chiko_ingham. The research found that despite the increased visibility and acceptance of gay couples, public reactions remain varied, reflecting both support and rejection rooted in existing social norms. The results show that public responses can be categorized into three positions according to Stuart Hall's reception theory: dominant hegemonic (fully supportive), negotiated (partially accepting within the constraints of personal values), and oppositional (rejecting because it goes against cultural and religious norms).
