INSETICIDAS BOTÂNICOS NO CONTROLE DE FORMIGAS

Abstract

As formigas cortadeiras são insetos sociais que apresentam castas reprodutoras e não reprodutoras, vivendo em colônias permanentes. Elas causam grandes prejuízos para plantações desde hortas caseiras a plantios de reflorestamento. Para seu controle é necessário a utilização indiscriminada do controle químico nas o que acaba representando um grande questionamento sobre os impactos ambientais da utilização dos defensivos agrícolas e seu comportamento nos ecossistemas. Porém, existe a necessidade do controle dessas pragas. Dentre as novas perspectivas adotadas, os extratos botânicos são apresentados com grande potencial utilização. Algumas plantas presentes na natureza podem possuir características repelentes ou deterrentes ao inseto, devido à ação de metabólitos secundários. O controle alternativo de pragas como a utilização de plantas com caraterísticas inseticidas pode ser muito promissor. Algumas plantas da família Lamiaceae podem ser utilizadas para repelir insetos, como é o caso da hortelã-pimenta (Mentha piperita), que é de fácil germinação e brotação. Outra erva que pode ser utilizada no controle de insetos é a Arruda (Ruta graveolens). Em virtude deste grande potencial, neste sentido o presente estudo procurou avaliar a eficiência da hortelã-pimenta e do extrato de Arruda, de forma qualitativa e quantitativa, no controle de formigas cortadeiras em um experimento instalado no Cinturão Verde, na Escola de Agronomia da UFG. E apresentando resultados promissores, pois ambas as plantas de controle se mostraram eficientes no controle das formigas.
