Primatas do Museu Dom Bosco: identificação e caracterização

Abstract

O Museu Dom Bosco (MDB) é considerado um Museu de História Natural, cujo acervo zoológico possui, aproximadamente, 30 mil espécimes. Deste conjunto, 66% são vertebrados. Um dos objetivos do acervo zoológico é analisar a distribuição geográfica e a sistemática de espécies catalogadas. Desta maneira, constitui-se uma fonte de informação valiosa para a elaboração de planos de conservação e manejo da fauna silvestre. Dentre os espécimes de vertebrados, o MDB possui alguns representantes da Ordem Primates. Atualmente, existem cerca de 191 espécies de primatas em todo o mundo e o Brasil é o país com o maior número de espécies, cerca de 70, agrupadas em 16 gêneros. O objetivo principal deste trabalho foi a identificação e caracterizaçãodos primatas do MDB, visando contribuir para um melhor conhecimento da fauna primatológica, principalmente, do Estado do Mato Grosso do Sul. Além disso, foi realizado um levantamento sobre a ecologia, distribuição geográfica, comportamento e vulnerabilidade das espécies estudadas, visando fornecer aos visitantes do museu, uma caracterização adequada destas espécies encontradas no acervo. O Museu possui 26 espécimes de primatas neotropicais pertencentes a setegêneros, contendo oito espécies, distribuídos da seguinte forma: Cebus apella, com nove espécimes; Alouatta caraya, com sete; Callithrix penicillata, com três; Callicebus moloch, com três; e as espécies Saimiri sciureus, Callithrix jacchus, Aotusazarae e Ateles chamek, com apenas um espécime cada. De acordo com a lista do IBAMA, apenas a espécie Ateles chamek é considerada ameaçada de extinção.
