In some situations nurses may experience personal failure, feel helpless, and need to distance themselves from bereaved parents because they feel unable to deal with the enormity of the parental feelings of loss. Interventions to address bereavement after neonatal death are increasingly common in Spain hospitals. However, more research is needed to assess the encounter between parents and health professionals during hospitalization after a fetal loss. Aim : The purpose of this research was to explore the experiences of midwives and nurses to care for families experiencing perinatal death. Method : Literature search in the following databases: CINAHL, Medline, Index, Crochane, Google Academico and PubMed (2005-2015). Inclusion criteria were: sample of nurses / midwives who have faced a fetal death or women with perinatal loss to explain their experience with nursing staff. Results : We included 7 articles of 68 reviewed. The included studies are written in English. In these studies, nurses and midwives emphasized their need for increased knowledge and training on how to cope with bereaved parents and requested greater support from team members and the hospital. Conclusion : Training programs in obstetrics need to better address the bereavement needs of parents following a stillbirth, and research is needed to evaluate effective bereavement interventions.
