Abstract

Les opérations de transformation et de conditionnement du bois, depuis la grume jusqu’au produit final, entraînent la production de déchets de toute sortes, d’une grande hétérogénéité de taille comme de forme. On considère que le rendement global de la chaîne, de l’exploitation forestière au produit final, est de l’ordre de 15 %, sans valorisation connexe des déchets. Si on se limite à la stricte chaîne de transformation, de la scierie au produit final, sans intégrer les bois abattus abandonnés en forêt, le rendement est rarement supérieur à 25 %. Ces chiffres illustrent l’importance de la valorisation des déchets, chutes et résidus divers des industries du bois dans un contexte de développement durable et de gestion équitable des ressources naturelles. Toute solution technologique ou commerciale permettant de gagner quelques points en rendement, sans pour autant altérer la compétitivité de la filière, concourt à maîtriser les prélèvements tout en assurant l’approvisionnement en matériau.
