Les tanins dans les bois tropicaux

Abstract

Cet article rend compte des essais effectués à la Division Cellulose et Chimie du C.T.F.T. sur les tanins naturels présents dans les bois tropicaux.Une recherche bibliographique sur les propriétés générales des tanins et sur les méthodes d'isolement et de quantification a d'abord été effectuée, suivie d'une étude comparative des différents procédés.La technique adoptée a été appliquée à un certain nombre de bois tropicaux et d'écorces, ainsi qu'à quelques échantillons de chêne comme référence.Plusieurs écorces se sont révélées riches en tanins (notamment celles des Mangroves et de certains Eucalyptus). A l'inverse, la plupart des bois présentaient des teneurs en polyphénols trop faibles pour que leur extraction soit techniquement et économiquement rentable.Les tanins des espèces tropicales sont généralement de nature catéchique, contrairement à ceux des bois tempérés qui sont des composés galliques.Quelques essais d'extraction successifs avec des solvants de polarité différente ont montré l'importance des extraits pour l'analyse chimique des bois et écorces.
