Desarrollo sustentable o sostenible: una definición conceptual

Abstract

El concepto de desarrollo sustentable o sostenible está aún en construcción y una de las críticas que se han manifestado es en relación a los matices contradictorios que hacen los economistas y los ambientalistas. Una de las principales dificultades que enfrentan quienes intentan hacer un riguroso análisis de estos conceptos es que estos se han convertido en una definición de moda para acompañar discursos políticos o incluso como eslogan de diversas empresas que al usarlas de manera deleznable pierden significado. En esta ocasión se pretende mostrar una breve reseña de los cambios que ha tenido el concepto de desarrollo sustentable o sostenible, desde que fue acuñado en 1983 en el "Nuestro Futuro Común" hasta nuestros días, considerando que es un discurso que se encuentra todavía en debate, pero que sin embargo, se ha estado perfilando hacia una definición propia. La definición de desarrollo sostenible se ha ido ajustando gradualmente al irse incrementando condiciones sociales en donde el ser humano es parte de un sistema y no dueño del mismo, en un proceso que armonice el crecimiento económico, la preservación de los recursos naturales, la reducción del deterioro ambiental, la equidad social todo en un contexto político a todos los niveles, local, regional, nacional y global.
