Costo efectividad de programas de prevención en infecciones de transmisión sexual.

Abstract

Objetivo: Realizar un ejercicio académico para comprender los términos básicos de costo-efectividad y tener un panorama general con fines de la toma de decisiones en cuestiones de Infecciones de Transmisión Sexual (ITS). Material y método: Se escogieron tres intervenciones en las que la población objetivo fueron adolescentes, estudiantes de educación media superior y otras personas que trabajan con ellos, a saber: profesores y autoridades educativas. Todas las intervenciones se aplicaron en preparatorias públicas de tres grandes ciudades de México (Ciudad de México, Monterrey y Guadalajara) con el objetivo de homogeneizar la población en estudio y de eliminar la posibilidad de cruzar la efectividad, al realizar cada programa en una ciudad distinta. El periodo de aplicación fue distinto en cada una de ellas. Resultados: Según el coeficiente de efectividad la intervención más costo-efectiva es la 2 (“Establecimiento y fortalecimiento de programas de prevención de VIH/SIDA y salud sexual y reproductiva en instituciones de educación media superior”). En la primera intervención se capacitaron promotores adolescentes que replicarán la información sobre medidas de prevención de VIH/SIDA, ITS y embarazos no planeados a otros jóvenes que no se están tomando en cuenta para el cálculo del coeficiente de efectividad. En la tercera intervención se desarrolló un programa computacional que puede ser utilizado para capacitar/informar a otros jóvenes que tampoco fueron considerados. Conclusiones: Se requiere de un estudio de mayor duración (longitudinal) para dar seguimiento a los efectos de replicación que pudieran tener los promotores capacitados.
