Dede Korkut Destanı, nesillerden nesillere, gerek sözlü gerek yazılı şekilde aktarılarak günümüze kadar ulaşan önemli bir eserdir. Türk kültür dünyasının önemli eserlerinden olan bu destan, edebiyat, dil, din, gelenek, atasözleri, tarih, coğrafya ve pedagoji gibi, birçok alana kaynaklık etmektedir. Destanda zaman zaman Şamanizm izleri görülse de bütün boylar İslami değerleri taşıyan manevi tablolar içermektedir. Dua da bu değerlerden birisidir. Türk ve İslam inanç sisteminin en önemli vasıtalarından biri olan dua, Dede Korkut Destanı’nda geniş olarak yer alır. Dede Korkut Destanı’nın Mukaddime’si besmeleyle başlar, boyların (hikâyelerin) çeşitli yerlerinde Peygamber’e salâvatlar getirilir ve her boy, anlatıcının yani Dede Korkut’un, duasıyla biter. Dualar toplu, değişik gruplarla, Hak dostları tarafından ve sesli olarak yapılır. Ayrıca duaların kısa ve ölçülü olarak yapılması eski Türklerin İslamiyet’in daha ilk dönemlerinde dua adabına ve önemine gösterdikleri titizliğin bir ifadesi olarak değerlendirilebilir. Dede Korkut epic is an important work that survived to our modern times coming from generation to generation, including both spoken and written form. This epic literature being one of the most important works of Turkish world culture is the source of many areas such as language, religion, traditions, proverbs, history, geography and pedagogy. Although from time to time we meet traces of shamanism in this epic, of all sizes are carrying Islamic values including spiritual paintings. Prayer is one of these values. Prayer which is one of the most important means of Turkey and the Islamic belief system, hold a large place in Dede Korkut epic. The sizes of Dede Korkut Epics begin with preface of the besmele (Islamic formula of Bismillahirahmanirahim), in various places of the sizes (stories) salavats to the Prophet is brought and every size ends with the narrator Dede Korkut's prayer. Prayers with different groups and by the help of saint friend are read with aloud. In addition, as the prayer made brief and moderate clearly shows how the ancient Turks from very early stages of Islam gives their due diligence to the importance and observance of prayer
