Abstract

A dormência de sementes de Brachiaria brizantha é responsável pela irregularidade e baixo estande em campos de produção. A natureza, intensidade e persistência deste fenómeno não está suficientemente elucidada. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar métodos para quebra de dormência de sementes de duas cultivares de Brachiaria brizantha, tratadas ou não com fungicidas carboxina (20,0% m/v) + tiram (20,0% m/v). O estudo foi conduzido em esquema fatorial 2 x 4 x 2 (cultivares x tratamentos para quebra da dormência x ausência e presença de fungicida). As cultivares testadas foram a ‘MG-5’ e ‘Marandu’. Os quatro tratamentos para quebra de dormência consistiram na escarificação com ácido sulfúrico (H2SO4 – 98%, 36 N) durante 10 e 15 minutos, tratamento com água à temperatura ambiente média de 21,7ºC, além da testemunha. As sementes foram avaliadas em ensaios de germinação aos 7 e 21 dias (final do ensaio). O tratamento de sementes com fungicida não teve efeito positivo na quebra de dormência e na percentagem de germinação das cultivares ‘MG-5’ e ‘Marandu’. As sementes das duas cultivares reagiram de modo muito distinto aos pré-tratamentos.
