Abstract

Este estudo teve como principais objectivos estudar os efeitos do uso de implantes subcutâneos de melatonina exógena e a eficácia relativa de dois tratamentos progestagénicos curtos no controlo da actividade reprodutiva em ovelhas da raça Churra Galega Bragançana, no período de transição entre as estações de anestro e reprodutiva. No dia 15 de março, 45 ovelhas adultas foram divididas em dois grupos: Controlo (n=24) e Melatotina (n=21). As ovelhas do grupo Melatonina receberam um implante subcutâneo de Melatonina exógena (18 mg). No dia 29 de abril, as ovelhas dos dois grupos foram divididas em dois subgrupos: 22 ovelhas foram tratadas com esponjas vaginais impregnadas com 20 mg acetato de Fluorogestona (FGA) e 23 ovelhas com esponjas vaginais contendo 60 mg de acetato de medroxiprogesterona (MAP). Na mesma altura, todas as ovelhas receberam uma injecção intramuscular de PGF2α (100 µg). A duração dos tratamentos progestagénicos foi de seis dias. Quando da remoção das esponjas vaginais foram administradas 500 UI de eCG. A actividade ovárica foi avaliada através do doseamento dos níveis plasmáticos de progesterona. A detecção de cio efectuou-se por quatro carneiros adultos munidos de arnês marcador. O diagnóstico de gestação foi realizado por ultra-sonografia, com uma sonda rectal de 7,5 MHz. Quando da colocação das esponjas vaginais, 64,4% das ovelhas apresentavam actividade ovárica completa. Os efeitos da melatonina exógena revelaram-se estatisticamente não significativos. Contudo, esta hormona melhorou significativamente a percentagem de ovelhas que ovularam (95,2% vs. 83,3%) e a taxa de fertilidade aparente (95,2% vs. 75,0%) das ovelhas que responderam aos tratamentos progestagénicos + eCG. O FGA e o MAP mostraram-se igualmente eficazes no controlo da actividade reprodutiva.
