Abstract

O montado predomina no grande espaço do Sul, no domínio do sobreiral e do azinhal (em menor extensão do pinhal manso). É o sistema agro-florestal mais extenso e importante de Portugal. Numa perspetiva histórica são apresentadas as condições para a formação e utilização do solo dos montados (do fundiário, aos mercados e às medidas de política pública). São também evidenciadas as vertentes mais relevantes da situação técnica e económica dos montados, os recursos pascícolas e as atividades pecuárias com maior valor económico. É feita uma reflexão sobre as fragilidades económicas e ambientais do ecossistema, evidenciando-se a sua valia e o impacte da política agrícola comum.
