Diseño de nuevos asentamientos informales

Abstract

Las fuerzas que inciden en la formación de la ciudad informal parecen evadir cualquier intento para enfrentar este reto con métodos convencionales. Pero en décadas recientes, y venciendo prejuicios contra los urbanismos informales, se han adelantado importantes iniciativas para habilitar asentamientos informales existentes, especialmente en Latinoamérica. El principal aporte de esta publicación lo constituye la introducción del enfoque que ha sido denominado soportes informales (S.I): un enfoque de diseño y gestión, de fácil aplicación, capaz de dotar a los residentes de los nuevos asentamientos informales, de aquellas condiciones que no pueden obtener por sus propios medios. Se persigue, mediante atinadas formas de planificación, diseño y gestión, que la ciudad predominantemente autoconstruida, se convierta en vecindarios y sistemas urbanos equilibrados, asequibles, eficientes, resilientes y atractivos para vivir.
