Abstract

Las unidades de paisaje más importantes en cuanto a manejo y conservación del recurso hídrico son las cuencas hidrográficas. El conocimiento de estas unidades es demasiado complejo como para ser soportado desde la ecología tradicional. Los estudios interdisciplinares han logrado forjar una mejor comprensión del paisaje, que ha sido útil no solo para ensanchar el conocimiento científico, sino también para hacer llegar al ciudadano común, si no el complejo conocimiento de los ecosistemas, al menos un mensaje contundente sobre la necesidad de gestionar sus recursos y conservarlos. La unión entre investigación, ciencia y educación debe potenciar la utilidad del conocimiento para fines científicamente válidos y socialmente prácticos. Sacar el conocimiento de las aulas, los laboratorios y el campo mismo, y acercárselo al campesino y al ciudadano, es una tarea ardua que hace falta emprender, pues la gestión racional de los ecosistemas es un trabajo de todos.
