Abstract

La especie Stryphnodendron polystachyum (Yigüire), tiene una presencia importante en la Reserva Forestal de Imataca en el estado Bolívar, Venezuela. La madera es relativamente dura y pesada, tiene grano entrecruzado y es difícil de cortar en el torno. El objetivo del presente estudio consistió en la evaluación del tratamiento térmico en rolas de madera de Stryphnodendron polystachyum sobre algunas propiedades físico-mecánicas de tableros contrachapados de tres chapas. Para su procesamiento se utilizaron dos tiempos de calentamiento de las rolas (72 h y 96 h), posteriormente, se realizó el corte rotatorio de las rolas para la producción de chapas y la elaboración de los tableros contrachapados. Finalmente, se evaluaron las propiedades físicas (densidad, contenido de humedad) y mecánicas (cizallamiento, dureza, extracción de clavos y de tornillos) de los tableros contrachapados, siguiendo las estipulaciones de las normas Venezolana COVENIN 2718-90 y Americana ASTM D 906-64, D 1037-99, D 2395-02, D 4442-92. Los resultados obtenidos en las propiedades mecánicas de los tableros contrachapados, permiten inferir que pueden ser utilizados en la producción de paletas de carga y embalaje en ambientes interiores, debido a la alta densidad y dureza de la madera.
