The relevance of this topic is related to the importance for Russia and China of maintaining security in the Eurasian space, which is strategically important for both sides. Cooperation within the SCO meets the interests of both Russia and China. At the same time, when making certain decisions, the national interests of each of the regional players are a priority for them. That is why understanding the main interests and goals of each of the major actors in the region is important for further forecasting the development of the SCO and the situation in the region. The main purpose of the study is to identify the main areas of cooperation between Russia and China in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Within the framework of this goal, the following tasks were solved: 1. to analyze the strategic interests of China and Russia in the SCO; 2. to identify differences in the strategic approaches of China and Russia to the implementation of foreign policy goals within the SCO; 3. to study the impact of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Russian-Chinese relations. The strategic requirements of China and Russia within the SCO are intertwined with the Sino-Russian strategic partnership, the strategic considerations within the SCO should be deeply based on the Sino-Russian strategic partnership to avoid small losses, and then strengthen the level of mutual trust between China and Russia. Strategic partnerships can develop in real terms.
