Abstract

The paper deals with the actual issue of physical deterioration of the embankments of the historical center of St. Petersburg, since some of their areas are in need of restoring bearing capacity. Main defects, damage of the embankment walls and the criticality of the situation were analised. The analysis of the existing methods of restoring the walls allowed me to identify the main methods that are used in current practice. As a part of the study, the main factors that complicate construction activities were researched and classified. Defects and damage that constructions receive as a result of technical and design errors in the process of restoring were revealed. Based on the research, a complex solution of reinforcement of the area on the bank of the river Fontanka and reasoning for the choice of the methods of reinforcement depending on the deterioration of the area was proposed. Recommendations on the minimization of the damage from renovation works were developed.
