El arte religioso en Ecuador: connotaciones del bien y del mal

Abstract

El presente texto propone un acercamiento a la simbología presente en las pinturas religiosas de Ecuador. Para este trabajo se han tomado como ejemplo dos pinturas religiosas que tienen como temática principal el infierno y el juicio final, ubicadas en la Iglesia Matriz de Zaruma y en la Iglesia de la Compañía en Quito. El objetivo de este trabajo es generar una línea de análisis comparativo de los elementos y temáticas fundamentales que se encuentran presentes en estas dos pinturas. Además, se pretende establecer las conexiones a través de los relatos bíblicos, para identificar las características fantástico-mitológicas, y cómo estas se han convertido en símbolos de la cultura cristiana. Desde esta perspectiva, el trabajo se complementará con una narrativa e interpretación de los símbolos y conceptos que se pueden obtener en cada pintura, basado en un estudio iconográfico para, de esta manera, definir los puntos de contacto entre las obras y cómo estos se convierten en un símbolo recurrente dentro de cada contexto cultural.
