This study aims to remark on some certain vowels and consonants in Kurmanji Kurdish, specifically spoken in Mus region of Turkey. There are very few studies on Kurmanji sounds and most have similar findings; Kurmanji has eight vocalic sounds and about thirty consonantal sounds. However, this study shows that Kurmanji has different sounds which haven’t been mentioned so far. Based on the articulation data, this study has three new claims; (i) Kurmanji orthography is misleading thus the vowels and consonants in orthography do not represent the exact number of sounds in this language, (ii) Kurmanji has eleven vocalic sounds even though eight vowels are used in orthography, and (iii) there are labial consonants in this language thus some consonants correspond to more than one sound such as voiceler velar stop [k] which will be proposed to represent three different sounds; unaspirated [k],aspirated [k h ] and labiovelar [k w ].
