Der Einfluss des Grammatikunterrichts auf die Schreibkompetenz

Authors: Stephan, Elisa Frederike;

Der Einfluss des Grammatikunterrichts auf die Schreibkompetenz

Abstract

This work examines the question of whether the teaching of grammatical knowledge can influence writing competence. After a historical overview of grammar teaching and its central concepts, the aims of teaching grammatical knowledge are explained. Although it is always assumed that grammar teaching promotes writing competence, it is striking that a theoretical model of how explicit grammatical knowledge influences the writing process is still missing. Therefore, a model of the formulation process is developed that sheds light on the role of explicit and implicit linguistic knowledge in the writing process. Moreover, empirical studies that have investigated the influence of grammar instruction on writing competence are discussed. Finally, principles for writing-enhancing grammar teaching are derived from the theoretical and empirical findings.
