La economía del cambio climático en América Latina y el Caribe: Algunos hechos estilizados

Abstract

El objetivo de este articulo es presentar un panorama agregado de los principales patrones regulares de los impactos economicos del cambio climatico en America Latina y el Caribe (alc), incluidos los procesos de adaptacion y mitigacion. En los resultados mas relevantes se aprecia que los costos economicos de esos impactos en alc son significativos, heterogeneos, no lineales, crecientes en el tiempo y con limites especificos que conducen a perdidas irreversibles. Mediante la evidencia disponible se constata ademas una relacion positiva entre la trayectoria de las emisiones per capita, el consumo de energia per capita y el ingreso per capita. Por ello, las proyecciones realizadas permiten suponer que las emisiones per capita en la region seguiran en aumento bajo la forma de un proceso de convergencia absoluto en emisiones per capita en los paises, junto con un paulatino proceso de desacoplamiento de las emisiones respecto de la actividad economica.
