Micro, pequeñas y medianas empresas en América Latina

Abstract

Este articulo presenta las caracteristicas y situacion de las microempresas, pequenas empresas y medianas empresas (mipyme) en varios paises de America Latina. Inicialmente, recoge las definiciones mas habituales en estos paises y establece una cuantificacion de tales definiciones en cada uno de ellos, asi como su distribucion sectorial y regional. Luego analiza las condiciones del entorno que influyen en la conducta de las empresas, sus problemas y la respuesta publica; en estos ambitos, examina el grado de desarrollo institucional de la region y su impacto en el comportamiento empresarial. Finalmente, y considerando elementos de la oferta y de la demanda, plantea oportunidades de mejora y mecanismos de articulacion publico-privada. Asimismo, establece algunas areas de problemas empresariales y formula propuestas para una mayor y mejor participacion de los responsables del diseno y ejecucion de las politicas de fomento en la region.
