Análisis comparativo de los precios de los medicamentos en América Latina

Abstract

En este trabajo se comparan los precios de medicamentos en las seis mayores economias de America Latina. Utilizando un modelo econometrico de panel con efecto fijo por pais y controlando las variables referentes a las caracteristicas de los farmacos, la comparacion abarca 19.741 unidades comercializadas durante el periodo 2010-2015 y se efectua a nivel mayorista y minorista y segun el tipo de medicamento (innovador, similar y generico). A nivel agregado y en salida de farmacia, la clasificacion de mas barato a mas caro es: 1° Peru, 2° Mexico, 3° Argentina, 4° Chile, 5° Colombia y 6° Brasil. En medicamentos innovadores, la Argentina y el Peru presentan los menores precios. En similares, Mexico y la Argentina tienen los precios mas bajos, mientras que para genericos puros, el Peru y Chile serian los mas baratos. La clasificacion no cambia sustancialmente si se comparan los precios a la salida de laboratorio.
