Abstract

El pensamiento de Epicuro ha sido uno de los más profundamente tergiversados, sobre todo por los enemigos del materialismo y del hedonismo que han querido desprestigiar esas ideas cambiando sus significados o creando una leyenda negra sobre ellas. Por otro lado, algunos de los más prestigiosos comentaristas nos han dejado una visión que no le hace justicia al pensamiento del filósofo del Jardín, reduciendo la riqueza de su sistema filosófico a un recetario de consejos para la buena vida y sus concepciones sobre la sociedad como un vulgar individualismo. Con osadía, pero también con erudición, la obra: El sistema de Epicuro y el renacer de una idea postergada, de Andrés Mombrú viene a revisar críticamente muchos de estos supuestos y a mostrar no sólo que su filosofía es un sistema, sino además que está en las raíces del materialismo y del hedonismo contemporáneo, vinculado al pensamiento de Marx y de Freud.
