Abstract

Mange mennesker med utviklingshemming i Norge har sitt dagaktivitetstilbud i kommunale dagsenter. Vi vet lite om hvilke former for teknologi og hjelpemidler som brukes i denne konteksten, og hvordan disse påvirker sosial praksis. Denne studien er etnografisk, og datamaterialet består av notater fra deltakende observasjon over tid samt intervjuer av arbeidstakere med utviklingshemming og ansatte ved et dagsenter i Norge. Empirien er analysert tematisk. Vi identifiserte fire ulike former for teknologi og hjelpemidler på dagsenteret, der den mest interessante er den vi har kalt hverdagsteknologi. Hverdagsteknologi er løsninger de ansatte har designet eller laget selv, samt utdatert utstyr til produksjon. I artikkelen argumenterer vi for at den sosiale samhandlingen på dagsenteret er preget av David Graebers begrep hverdagskommunisme, og diskuterer hvordan hverdagsteknologien derfor kan bidra til trygghet, autonomi og innflytelse slik at opplevelser av aktivt medborgerskap muliggjøres for mennesker med utviklingshemming i en dagsenterkontekst.
