Consideraciones generales para el reporte e interpretación del antibiograma

Abstract

El antibiograma es una prueba para determinar la sensibilidad de un microorganismo a diferentes antibióticos. Conocer las bases para su interpretación es responsabilidad de todo el personal involucrado en el diagnóstico, tratamiento y control de infecciones. Los métodos para obtener el perfil de susceptibilidad son: difusión de disco (DD) y los que reportan la concentración inhibitoria mínima (CIM): microdilución en caldo manual y semiautomatizada, dilución en agar y la difusión en gradiente (epsilometría). A través de estos métodos los aislamientos se pueden categorizar en sensible (S), intermedio (I) o resistente (R)1. En este documento se plasma una estrategia general para la interpretación del antibiograma (IDA) que se resume en 8 puntos ; entre los que destacan la selección de antibióticos de prueba y reporte , eliminación de resistencia intrínseca (RI), detección de mecanismos de resistencia adquirida y la ejecución de pruebas suplementarias 1.
