A propósito del "Cantar de Mio Cid"

Abstract

 Este estudio identifica a los infantes de Carrión del Cantar de Mio Cid. Se trata de los Castro, Fernando Rodríguez de Castro y su hijo Pedro Fernández de Castro, infantes de León y, en el segundo caso, también señor de Carrión. Como los personajes literarios, ambos fueron familiares, ultrajaron a sus esposas, fueron infantes, estuvieron muy vinculados con las tierras de Carrión y se caracterizaron por sus traiciones. La causa de su protagonismo en la obra guarda relación con el hecho de que Pedro combatió del lado de las tropas almohades en la batalla de Alarcos (1195), provocando la derrota de las tropas castellanas y la casi desaparición de la Orden militar de Calatrava, fundada por el probable autor del texto, fray Diego Velázquez. La identificación de estos dos individuos junto con la de Raquel [Esrá] y Vidas (Alfonso VIII), de Per Abbat (probablemente, Per Abbat de Morimond) y, asimismo, el estudio de la onomástica de las espadas y del caballo del Cid y de la causa del camino meridional del héroe castellano en el poema o del nombre del abad de Cardeña (Sancho, en lugar del histórico Sisebuto) permiten apostar por su composición entre 1195 y 1196 en el monasterio de Gumiel de Izán por este freire, ya retirado entonces de sus labores militares y clericales.
