Abstract

An der Arbeitsdefinition zu Antisemitismus der International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), die als Leitlinie für eine Klassifizierung von antisemitischen Vorfällen dient, wird Kritik laut, insbesondere aus aktivistischen und akademischen Kreisen. Eine Durchbuchstabierung des Texts der Definition zeigt, dass die Kritik sachlich weitgehend unbegründet ist. Weder der Text selbst noch die Anwendung der Definition schränken die Meinungsfreiheit ein oder führen zu unzulässiger Zensur. Im Gegenteil, die Arbeitsdefinition kann helfen, Antisemitismus in seinen aktuellen Ausformungen konkret zu benennen, zu erfassen und Grenzen zwischen legitimer Kritik und Ressentiment zu schärfen. Dass Antisemit:innen oder deren Freund:innen nicht begeistert sind, wenn einige ihrer Äußerungen als möglicher Ausdruck antisemitischer Ressentiments durch eine konkrete Benennung als solche entlarvt werden, sollte nicht verwundern.
