Semiología del dolor

Abstract

La semiología o semiótica es el estudio de los signos y síntomas de las enfermedades y sus consecuencias. Los signos son las manifestaciones objetivas de la enfermedad, bien sea físicas como la sudoración o la dilatación de las pupilas, o químicas, como la hiperglicemia, que se reconocen cuando se examina al enfermo. En cambio, los síntomas son las manifestaciones subjetivas que experimenta el paciente y que el médico no percibe o le es difícil comprobar pero que conoce mediante el interrogatorio. Por ejemplo, el dolor sólo es percibido por el paciente pero lo comunica al médico con su lenguaje mediante descripciones verbales. Síndrome doloroso es la serie de signos y síntomas que se presentan en un momento dado y que definen un estado morboso como es el caso del Síndrome Regional Complejo Doloroso. El diagnóstico del dolor resulta del conjunto ordenado de métodos y procedimientos de que se vale el médico para obtener los signos y síntomas. De esta manera identifica la dolencia, deduce el pronóstico y establece la terapia. En otras palabras, la evaluación del paciente tiene como fin diagnosticar el problema doloroso, definir si el dolor es agudo, crónico o canceroso, desarrollar la adecuada estrategia terapéutica, evitar la fragmentación del cuidado y evaluar los aspectos sicológicos, sociales, culturales y familiares en los que está inmerso el paciente.
