The hsp70 PCR-RFLP assay described by Graça et al. (2012) enables to identifify different species of the genus Leishmania. Graça et.al. (2012) described four different primer pairs and associated with some restriction enzymes for the identification of Leishmania species. The hsp70 PCR-RFLP assay using the hsp70 C primers described by Graça et al. (2012) amplify a 234 base pairs (bp) fragment. It was standardized in our laboratory with some modifications and has contributed significantly to the identification of species of Leishmania especially of the subgenus Leishmania (Viannia) sp.
