Historias universales del arte

Abstract

Proponemos una lectura sobre la génesis de las historias universales del arte como género editorial en la modernidad y una reflexión sobre la potencia del archivo para releer ese corpus en la actualidad. A la luz de distintos aportes teóricos, se caracteriza a la escritura de la historia universal como una forma de coleccionismo basada en la serialización de artefactos heterogéneos y en la conformación de esa serie como una totalidad abstracta. A partir de la distinción analítica entre colección y archivo, el trabajo propone la construcción de un archivo para interrogar otras temporalidades ocluidas en el imaginario que el libro de historia construye sobre sí mismo y para registrar, a la vez, la forma en la que esos tiempos borrados con la escritura de la historia se inscriben aún en el cuerpo de los libros. Con ese fin, indagamos en la historia genética de un opúsculo sobre historia de la pintura occidental, publicado en 1967 en Buenos Aires por la editorial Atlántida. En el marco de una reflexión más amplia sobre la transmisión de modelos editoriales sostenemos que en cada historia del arte universal insisten los restos de un segundo género: el libro de viajes.
