Review: Werner Vogd (2005). Systemtheorie und rekonstruktive Sozialforschung. Eine empirische Versöhnung unterschiedlicher theoretischer Perspektiven

Abstract

In this book the author tries to show a connection between LUHMANN's systems theory and social research with a qualitative reconstructive methodology. Following a detailed theoretical introduction to the field, showing the background of the two concepts as well as the opportunities and challenges arising if they are to be connected, three chapters show practical applications in a medical context. In these studies the main approach discussed is BOHNSACK's documentary method. The book presents an effective and meticulous way of dealing with its main issue. Unfortunately, there is no clear link between the theoretical and the practical part of the book and the reader needs either already to have detailed knowledge of the area or else must achieve a lot in integrating the contents.
