Caracterización florística de un bosque alto andino en el parque nacional natural Puracé, Cauca, Colombia

Abstract

Los bosques alto andinos son ecosistemas que albergan importantes muestras de la biodiversidad en Colombia, constituyen el hábitat de numerosas especies y cumplen importantes funciones, entre éstas, la regulación hídrica. Sin embargo, las actividades antrópicas afectan este importante recurso, poniendo en peligro su composición y función. Por tanto, es necesaria la producción de conocimiento biológico del ecosistema y la definición de medidas para su conservación. Como respuesta a lo anterior, esta investigación tuvo como objetivo describir la vegetación presente en el ecosistema de bosque alto andino, entre los 3200 y 3400 m de altitud, en el bosque de San Juan, dentro del Parque Nacional Natural (PNN) Puracé, departamento del Cauca, Colombia. Para esto, se usó el método de Cinturón de Gentry (DAP ≥ 2,5 en 0,1 ha). El bosque estudiado estuvo compuesto por 301 individuos clasificados en 13 familias, 18 géneros y 38 especies. Las especies con mayores índices de valor de importancia (IVI) se presentaron en las familias Cunoniaceae, Chloranthaceae, Melastomataceae, Araceae, Piperaceae y Clusiaceae, representadas por: Weinmannia mariquitae (IVI: 0,96), Hedyosmum sp. (IVI: 0,56), Miconia sp.1 (IVI: 0,25), Anthurium sp. (IVI: 0,13), Piper sp. (IVI: 0,13) y Clusia multiflora (IVI: 0,13), respectivamente. El bosque se caracterizó por la presencia de abundantes árboles con alturas entre 3 a 5,9 metros. Se calculó una diversidad de 0,18 usando el índice de Simpson y un área basal total de 6,19 m2. Se concluye que el bosque de San Juan posee una composición y estructura típicas de los bosques altos andinos descritos para la cordillera central colombiana. Las características de este bosque (i.e. zona de transición de bosque alto andino a páramo y su cercanía a aguas termales), lo constituyen en un referente importante para la conservación de este ecosistema en el Cauca.
