Tomografia a coerenza ottica

Abstract

La tomografia a coerenza ottica (OCT) è una nuova tecnica per l’imaging in grado di fornire una definizione di circa 10-20 microm. Dato il suo alto potere risolutivo, l’OCT intravascolare è la tecnica di imaging più promettente per lo studio della microstruttura delle placche aterosclerotiche in vivo. L’OCT consente di misurare lo spessore del sottile cappuccio fibroso delle lesioni aterosclerotiche, e di visualizzare la tunica intima, la tunica media e la membrana elastica esterna se il vaso è integro da lesioni. Tuttavia, l’OCT non è esente da limitazioni, prima tra tutte, lo scarso potere di penetrazione in presenza di tessuti non trasparenti.<BR>In questo articolo gli autori illustrano le caratteristiche positive, e i limiti dell’OCT per studio della parete di un vaso arterioso sulla base di quella che è stata la loro esperienza personale e di quanto è apparso in letteratura.<BR>
