Citología y distribución de Bouteloua karwinskii y B. chasei

Abstract

Se discute la distribución geográfica y la citología de Bouteloua karwinskii y B. chasei, dos pastos endémicos poco conocidos. Estas especies parecidas son simpátricas, y se encuentran en una área relativamente restringida que se extiende desde Coahuila hasta San Luis Potosí. Aunque B. karwinskii tiene una distribución total más grande, parece ser menos abundante dentro de su propia zona que es B. chasei. La última especie parece estar limitada a suelos yesosos, y con frecuencia es dominante en estos habitats. Las gramíneas antes mencionadas, también son comparadas con otra especie parecida, B. breviseta, que crece en el norte de México y en el suroeste de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. Nuestros estudios indican que aunque estas tres especies tienen un número cromosómico básico de diez, R. karwinskii es diploide (2n = 20), B. chasei es tetraploide (2n = 40), o hexaploicle (2n = 60), y B. breviseta es tetraploide (2n = 40).
