The use increase in aggregates production in Great Britain since 1960 has generated growing concern over the environmental impact of aggregates extraction. Attention is turning to the large amounts of waste materials and by-products which are stockpiled in spoil tips around Great Britain. This paper details the properties and potential uses of waste and recycled materials and explores their commercial viability as alternative materials in road construction
