Radicales libres derivados de oxígeno. Su papel en Cardiología

Abstract

Los radicales libres de oxígeno son moléculas altamente reactivas que se caracterizan por tener un electrón no emparejado en uno de sus orbitales más externos. A ellos se han atribuido algunos fenómenos patológicos, que en el campo de la cardiología suceden fundamentalmente durante la reperfusión de un tejido que se encontraba isquémico previamente. Durante la isquemia se produce la preparación del terreno para que en la reintroducción del oxígeno se produzca una gran producción de estas moléculas. El objetivo que se ha perseguido en modelos de experimentación animal es reducir el daño inducido por radicales libres con muy diversos agentes. Es probable que en un futuro estos agentes formen parte del tratamiento convencional de ciertas patologías cardíacas.
