El trasplante hepático ortotópico constituye en la actualidad una opción terapéutica válida para determinados pacientes afectos de hepatopatía terminal. Entre las diversas complicaciones del trasplante hepático ortotópico, las de carácter infeccioso representan una causa importante de mortalidad. En este trabajo se revisan los diferentes tipos de complicaciones infecciosas que pueden presentarse en pacientes sometidos a trasplante hepático ortotópico y se presentan los datos actualmente disponibles relativos a la transmisión de agentes infecciosos de donante a receptor vehiculizados por el propio órgano trasplantado.
