Estudio experimental en cobayos y perros. Se investiga el efecto de la inhalación de CO2, en oxígeno, en mezclas del 5 al 12 por ciento, sobre la respuesta a la excitación mecánica de la tráquea. Se observa que el CO2, disminuye o suprime la tos, según la intensidad de la excitación traqueal. El efecto antitusígeno se caracteriza por la depresión de la actividad muscular espiratoria que se atribuye principalmente a la acción central.
